Bangla terror groups plotting to disrupt I-Day celebrations

NEW DELHI: In the run-up to Independence Day, security agencies have rung loud alerts in the northeastern states and Delhi of threats from terror groups in neighbouring countries.

According to security sources, terror cadres from the Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) and Harkat-ul-Jihad Islami (HuJI) may have infiltrated into India through the northeastern states, particularly Assam.

According to intelligence intercepts, the aim of many of these terrorists is to sabotage Independence Day celebrations in New Delhi.

JMB is currently on the run from security forces in Bangladesh, while HuJI has just been put on the terror sanctions list by the US and UN.

In the past month, security agencies said they had sent in at least 15-20 security alerts to state governments, including UP and Delhi regarding possible terror threats.
